Eligibility for a Rent Choice rental subsidy
Rent Choice has been specifically designed to meet the Affordable Housing requirements of Key Workers essential to the growth and development of the NT’s economy and community.
Subsidy payments can be applied to new lease agreements or lease extensions with a licensed Real Estate Agent. The lease commencement date must come after the Rent Choice voucher issue date. All leases must commence within 8 weeks from the voucher issue date.
Eligibility for assistance under this initiative is based on criteria as follows:
Key Workers will be eligible if they meet the following circumstances:

They are in the NT or moving to the NT and are working in a priority industry occupation including not for profit organisations, private enterprises, and Government

They are an Australian citizen, permanent resident or have a current Australian work visa.

They are not in receipt of subsidised housing from their employer or affordable housing program.
Priority industries include:

Automotive,

Health and Human Services

Hospitality & Tourism
Locality
Rent Choice will be available to eligible Key Workers who wish to rent through a licensed Real Estate Agent in the following locations:
- Darwin
- Palmerston
- Katherine
- Tennant Creek
- Alice Springs.
Income Limits
Applicant Gross household income must be under certain income limits to be considered for the scheme:
Single: $100,000
Couple: $122,100
Families: $144,300
Income eligibility is assessed at the point of Rent Choice application.
