Venture Housing has opened 19 studio apartments in Palmerston's Central Business District, providing safe, affordable homes for young workers transitioning to independent living.
The success of the project is the result of a collaboration between Venture Housing, Anglicare NT, and Mission Australia, who will jointly support tenants as they develop the practical life skills needed for long-term stability.
"We are providing an opportunity for young people to live independently in safe, secure homes and supporting them to develop the practical life skills needed for a stable future. Youth homelessness remains a critical issue across Australia, and we are working to change outcomes for young people."
— Tim Sunwoo, Chief Executive, Venture Housing
The CBD location is central to the model's design. Proximity to public transport, retail, libraries, sports parks, and recreational facilities means tenants can build social connections and access the services they need to thrive in work, education, and community life.
Mission Australia and Anglicare NT will provide wrap-around support to ensure young people are able to sustain their tenancies and move along the housing continuum towards independent living, with the goal to be less likely to be reliant on social housing and more likely to have opportunity to end up in home ownership.
Special thanks to Fred Docking and Alana Hallam for their dedication in bringing this collaboration together.
