John has an impressive and extensive career in legal practice and management of legal teams, strategic policy and advice across many disciplines, including health, housing and Aboriginal Affairs. He has for many years been an expert adviser on various Committees and Statutory Boards representing Aboriginal policy, law reform and land rights,  in the NT and across Australia. His most recent senior leadership roles include as Manager of Law and Justice Projects at NAAJA, and as Senior Adviser to The Hon. Selena Uibo – specialising in Aboriginal Affairs, Treaty and Local Decision Making across remote Aboriginal communities. 

John’s leadership and governance expertise has also been gained through various Board Director roles including:

  • Chair of the NT Primary Health Network (PHN);
  • co-Chair of Poche SA&NT; and
  • Chair of the Smith Family National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Group.  

John is passionate about working in a values aligned organisation where he can influence and make a difference. Given the extensive professional experience, knowledge and leadership John brings to this role, and as an Aboriginal man born and raised in the NT, John’s insights will add value and strengthen Venture’s senior leadership.  

John holds:

  • a Bachelor of Laws from CDU; 
  • a Bachelor of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies, CDU;
  • a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, ANU; and 
  • a Graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).
