On March 30th, the Community Housing Industry Association (CHIA)NT 'HAFF Ready in the NT Symposium' was attended by 100 enthusiastic participants and experts from the three levels of Government, housing, academics, planning, institutional finance and NT community housing providers. Proudly supported and coordinated with the help of Venture Housing, this full-day symposium was delivered to explore how we can achieve collective impact through optimising the Housing Australia Future Fund, the National Housing Accord, and related innovative funding initiatives.  We are optimistic that this legislation passes through the Senate soon 🙏

In recognition of the Territory’s unique operating environment, the housing and homelessness crisis and the shocking rates of homelessness being 12 times more than any other jurisdiction - there was a resounding message from symposium participants that in order to turn the curve, funding to the NT should be based on unmet need and not on population. CHIA NT now has agreed key messages and priority actions to best position the NT to respond and deliver well-considered and sustainable housing projects.

Following the event, the Hon. Minister Selena Uibo announced a further $150,000 commitment for a part-time CHIA NT Policy Officer to support sector capacity building and growth and mobilise resources. This investment, in addition to the $22.3m already committed for projects in the NTG’s Community Housing Growth Strategy 2022-2032 further demonstrates the NT Government’s confidence and commitment to supporting the sector's growth. Our capability and growth are critical to boosting the supply of much-needed affordable housing through partnerships with the private and government sectors.
