A $6.9M partnership between Venture Housing, Housing Australia, the Territory Labor Government and the Commonwealth Government will fund the development of twelve social and affordable homes in Tennant Creek.

Venture Housing is developing the twelve 2-bedroom homes and has contributed land and $1.5M towards the project. The remaining funds consist of a $3M grant from Housing Australia, a $1.9M joint grant between the Territory Labour and Commonwealth governments under the Barkly Regional Deal, and a $500,000 capital grant from the Territory Labor Government. Minister for Urban Housing Ngaree Ah Kit announced the deal in a media release stating "The construction of new homes in Tennant Creek not only supports the objectives of the Barkly Regional Deal to improve the livability of the region but also means more housing for Territorians in need"

This will be Venture's second development in Tennant Creek, enabling tenants to access opportunities and achieve aspirations. " Venture is committed to increasing the supply of sustainable, well-designed, affordable and quality homes by leveraging our capability and capital and partnerships with Government and the private sector." said Karen Walsh, Venture CEO, "This joint investment approach makes a huge and positive difference to what we can now deliver, and our partnership demonstrates what can be achieved when we all share the vision."

This is the first Northern Territory targeted grant that Housing Australia is funding through the National Housing Infrastructure Facility Fund for Social and Affordable Housing. Nathan Dal Bon, Australia Housing CEO said " We are very pleased to fund our first social and affordable housing project in the Northern Territory, and even more so in Tennant Creek which experiences one of the highest proportional homelessness rates in the country. This is a great example of how the Commonwealth Government is working with states and territories and registered community housing providers to support the community housing sector to deliver homes for vulnerable people including Indigenous Australians"

The homes are expected to be completed by February 2025 and will be available for older women at risk of homelessness, women and children fleeing domestic violence and Aboriginal people who are eligible for social and affordable housing.
