How do I apply?
Applications for Rent Choice open on 1st July 2024
All adult household members must be residing in Australia at the time of the application, only the main applicant is required to be a Key Worker. Applications for Rent Choice are submitted via an online form.
Once submitted, you (the main applicant) will receive an email confirmation of lodgement, along with a unique reference number to use should you need to discuss your application or provide additional information during the assessment process. We will continue to keep you updated on the progress of your application assessment via email, so it is important to ensure that the email address you provide for us to contact you on is entered correctly, and one that you monitor frequently.
The following supporting documentation is required as evidence of eligibility for the scheme.
All adult household members must provide
- Declaration of any property ownership and evidence of any income received (if applicable)
- Current Centrelink Income Statement showing payments for the last 12 months (if applicable)
- Current child support income statement showing payments for the last 12 months (if applicable)
- 100 points of identification
- Evidence of residency status and Visa details to verify resident status* (if applicable)
*By submitting an application, visa holders consent to Venture Housing completing a VEVO Check with the Department of Home Affairs to confirm their residency and work rights status.
Wage and salary earners
- Eight weeks of most recent payslips from all employers that includes Year to Date (YTD) gross income. If not employed for previous eight weeks prior to application, a contract of employment within the Northern Territory including salary range.
- Australian Tax Office (ATO) Notice of Assessment for the most recent financial year and/or all payment summaries, where applicable (ie, if the tax return is not yet finalised)
- If you are an Australian Resident for taxation purposes, all overseas income must also be declared.
Self-employed/sole traders and sub-contractors
- Business Activity Statements (BAS) for the previous 12 months, supporting documents including evidence of the previous eight weeks’ income up to the time of application.
- ATO Notice of Assessment for the most recent financial year.
Children
- Birth certificate
- Evidence of adoption, foster care, kinship care by the applicant or adult household member (if applicable)
Statutory Declaration
A Statutory Declaration must be completed by the main applicant to declare;
- That there is no other household income beyond the income evidenced in the documentation provided in your Choice Subsidy Scheme Application.
- That any assets that could justifiably meet your housing needs have been declared
- That the information provided to determine eligibility in your Rent Choice Subsidy Scheme Application is true, correct and not misleading in any way.
- That any known conflict of interest has been declared in your Rent Choice Subsidy Scheme Application.

Accepted ID Documentation
Copies or photos of ID documentation must be in colour, legible and show the document in its entirety.
The application must include at least one photo ID for each adult household member:
- Current Passport (70pts)
- Australian Citizenship Certificate (70pts)
- Full Birth Certificate (not extract) (70pts)
- Australian Drivers Licence - front & back (40pts)
- Proof of Age Card - front & back (40pts)
- Ochre Card - front & back (40pts)
- Centrelink Card (40pts)
- Government employee ID (40pts)
- VEVO confirmation document - dated within 2 months (visa holders) (40pts)
- Medicare Card (25pts)
- Birth Certificate Extract (25pts)
- Australian Marriage Certificate (25pts)
- Credit Card or Bank Account Card (25pts)
- Utility Bill for current address - dated within 2 months (20pts)
Invalid applications
Applications will be invalid if:
- the documentation provided is incomplete
- the documentation provided is false or contains misleading information
- forms or supporting documents provided are not legible.
If your application is invalid, you will be contacted via email and when appropriate, provided with details of what is required.
You will have 2 business days to respond before your application is declined.
